Kate’s Story

Kate is senior instructor with the Pilates Academy of Portland and a fully certified Level III Peak Pilates instructor. She came to Portland from Northern California to attend Lewis & Clark College and has undergraduate degrees in English and Music and graduate degrees in Counseling Psychology and Addictions Treatment. She lives with her husband, two wonderful kids, handsome golden retriever and rescued Russian tortoise near Multnomah Village in Portland.

Kate discovered Pilates while recovering from major hip and then brain surgeries. The variety of equipment, the combination of stretch and strength in performing each exercise and the coordination of movement between the brain and body integral to the pilates work aided in recovery from surgical intervention. Further, the mind/body component of Pilates helped improve memory and concentration as well as alleviate feelings of anxiety and stress. Becoming a certified pilates instructor has enriched her life in immeasurable ways and she genuinely enjoys sharing her knowledge to improve the lives of others.
